BEL AIR, Md., May 24, 2018 — APG Federal Credit Union (APGFCU) is proud to announce the Credit Union Foundation of Maryland and the District of Columbia, Inc. selected KenJoh Fitzgerald, APGFCU member and Bel Air High School senior, to receive a college scholarship through the foundation’s scholarship program.
Liz Leoni-Monti presented the award to Fitzgerald Thursday morning during the Bel Air High School Senior Awards Ceremony. Fitzgerald is one of 12 high school credit union members awarded a scholarship through the Credit Union Foundation of Maryland and District of Columbia this year.
The Foundation offers scholarships to students entering their freshman through senior year of college or trade school. Fitzgerald’s essay, one of 374 entries, described the value of credit union membership and the impact his father’s membership at APGFCU had on him and his family.
Reflecting on the theme of his essay, Fitzgerald commented, “Life is a long and windy road. There will be signs that say you can't do it. Prove them wrong."
Fitzgerald is also a recipient of an APGFCU college scholarship award. He and 24 other students who demonstrated exemplary academic achievement and community involvement received $25,000 in scholarships at the APGFCU annual meeting held April 19, 2018.
