ABERDEEN, Md., January 31, 2018 — APG Federal Credit Union (APGFCU), a community credit union serving Harford and Cecil counties, marked 80 years of continued growth and service to its members on January 13, 2018. The credit union will recognize this milestone with employee and community activities throughout the year.

“We are honored to have served multiple generations of families in Harford and Cecil counties,” said Don W. Lewis, president/CEO. “We are local people serving local people, and we strongly believe in giving back to the communities we serve.”

To celebrate its anniversary date, employees received $25 Visa® gift cards to perform random acts of kindness in the community during January. Employees have shared stories of how the gesture brought joy to teachers, small business owners, families facing hard times, and happiness to staff members while distributing the cards.

APGFCU’s roots go back to 1938 when a small group of Aberdeen Proving Ground employees was inspired to improve the financial well-being of the military and civilian families at APG. They saw the need to provide a safe haven for soldiers to grow their savings and a source of credit that was both available and affordable.

These employee volunteers began business out of a single cash drawer in a small office at APG. Over the years, APGFCU has grown into a $1.2 billion, not-for-profit financial service cooperative, operating 11 branches in Harford and Cecil counties. With more than 125,000 members and counting, APGFCU continues to operate solely for its members’ benefit.
